Going into Saturday’s game, Chaminade and Delbarton had a history for producing intense, competitive matches. Before the game, the Chaminade Flyers won four consecutive matches, but the Delbarton Green Wave claimed the four previous games.
Thus far, both teams have had excellent seasons. Chaminade entered the game with a 14-1, ranking 5th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings. With a perfect 15-0 record, Delbarton earned the 9th national rank.
After a well fought battle, Delbarton came out on top with a 6-5 victory. It was a down to the wire game in which the Green Wave entered the final quarter down two goals. In the dying moments, Matt Killian netted the game winning goal with only three seconds left.
Killian’s game winner marked his second goal of the day. Kevin Lewis added on another two and Tommy Fowler and Austin Williams netted a goal each. On the defensive side of the ball, goalie Josh Schisler made seven saves throughout the game.
Now the Green Wave moves on to the NJSIAA playoffs. As the first seed in the playoffs, Delbarton has earned a bye in the first round. They kick off their playoff campaign on Thursday May 23 against Pope John, who defeated Christian Brothers earlier in the playoffs.
Delbarton looks to take the momentum of their perfect season with them to the playoffs. By continuing their excellent play on both sides of the ball, Delbarton will look to make their way through the bracket and win the championship.
