Dominating the lacrosse scene, Delbarton finished last year with an incredible 17-1 record. Predicted to have another commanding season, the New Jersey powerhouse sits in 4th in the DigitalSports’ National Lacrosse Rankings preseason analysis.
Delbarton defeated top ranked teams such as 13th ranked Chaminade, 21st St. Anthony’s, and 48th Fairfield Prep. Its only loss came to Seton Hall Prep in the NJSIAA semifinals 10-8, a team they defeated earlier in the year.
Led by senior defenders Will Reynolds, now playing at Princeton, and Mike Bicknese, University of Pennsylvania, the Green Wave only allowed its opponents to score over 5 goals five times last season. To replace these two great players, Chad Otterman and Peter Welch, who has already committed to Duke, are both defensemen/LSM who rank 10 and 15, respectively, amongst all players in the northeast.
Attackman J.J. McBride, recruited by Penn, and midfielder Jordan Dowiak, Cornell, lead the Green Wave on the offensive side of the ball. Last year, McBride notched seven goals and ten assists and Dowiak scored 14 goals and three assists.
With a team loaded with talent, Delbarton is going to be one of this year’s most exciting teams to watch. The Green Wave kicks off its on March 26 against Seton Hall Prep, looking for some payback after last season’s playoff loss.
